Materials Required
- Outer Fabric: 1 fat quarter of non-directional polycotton or cotton
- Lining Fabric: 1 fat quarter of non-directional polycotton or cotton
- Interfacing: Medium weight interfacing (optional — iron on to the outer fabric for extra structure)
- Essential Tools: Sewing machine, iron for pressing, fabric clips, and coordinating thread
What You Will Learn / Techniques
- Building the Lining: Fold, clip and sew each side with a ¼" seam allowance, leaving an 8cm gap for turning, then press all four seams open.
- Building the Outer: Repeat the same construction without the turning gap, press the seams open and turn right side out.
- Joining Outer and Lining: Nest the outer inside the lining right sides together, match all four seams and the top edges, then sew around the top.
- Turning and Finishing: Turn through the gap in the lining, close it, push the lining inside, press out the corners and top-stitch around the top edge.
- Shaping the Box: Pinch and clip the side edges, then sew down each one to create the structured box shape.
