Sew a roomy, fully lined shoulder bag with a webbing strap

The CATHY Shoulder Bag is one of the larger bags in the range — big enough for a folder, a book, your shopping or a day's essentials — and it's fully lined, so it's as tidy inside as it is out. A separate pocket fabric means you can pick out a contrast, and the strap is made from sturdy 25mm webbing rather than fabric, so it takes the weight without stretching.

Clear instructions and a straightforward shape make it a confidence-building make even if it's one of your first bags.

What you'll learn

  • Building a fully lined bag so no raw edges show inside
  • Adding a pocket in a contrasting fabric
  • Attaching a webbing shoulder strap securely enough to carry a real load
  • Working to a 12mm seam allowance throughout

Finished size

Approximately 41cm wide x 31cm high

What you'll need

½m of your main fabric, ½m of lining fabric, ½m of pocket fabric, and 3m of 25mm webbing for the strap. Seam allowance is 12mm throughout — note this is wider than most of our patterns.
