Sew a simple padded placemat — the quickest of our table linens
TADWICK is a straightforward two-fabric placemat with no border: front, back, and a layer of fusible fleece between them for a bit of padding and heat protection. Sew it, turn it through the gap, topstitch, done. If you've never made anything for the table before, start here.

What you'll learn
- Ironing fusible fleece centrally onto the back of the front fabric
- Leaving and closing a 10cm turning gap
- Snipping corners for a sharp finish
- Topstitching a scant ¼" all round, which closes the gap as it goes

What you'll need (for each placemat)
2 fat quarters in contrasting fabrics, 1 piece of fusible fleece interfacing, a heat-erasable pen and a quilting or standard ruler. Seam allowance is ¼".
