Sew a cosy fleece hooded scarf — two sizes in one pattern, Adult and Child
MISTRAL is a hood with a long scarf running out of each side, so it stays put without tying and keeps your neck and ears warm at the same time. It's cut entirely from fleece, which doesn't fray, so there are no seams to finish and no hems to turn — one of the reasons it's such a good early project.
Both sizes are included: make it for yourself and a matching one for a child from the same pattern.
What you'll learn
- Sewing fleece — including lengthening your stitch and using a walking foot if you have one
- Building a lined hood from four pieces and matching the central seams
- Making the two scarf ends and turning out sharp corners
- Setting the scarf ends between the hood outer and lining so every raw edge is enclosed
- Turning the whole thing through a gap in the lining and closing it neatly
Finished sizes
- Adult: approximately 110cm total length
- Child: approximately 97cm total length
What you'll need
1m of fleece for the outer and 1m of fleece for the lining. A walking foot is optional but useful when sewing fleece. Seam allowance is ¼" throughout.
